Jumping is a form of locomotion or movement in which an organism or non-living mechanical system propels itself through the air along a ballistic trajectory.
I’ve always enjoyed jumping. As a young boy, my grandparents used to take my family on hikes in the desert of Borrego Springs. During the hikes, I would be alongside the group jumping from boulder-to-boulder. My grandmother would marvel at my athleticism. She told me one day I would grow up a circus performer.
When I was eight, I learned how to ride a skateboard. I began learning tricks like an “ollie”, which is a jump on a skateboard. Just about every trick requires an ollie so I was jumping a lot!
Growing up, my neighborhood friends had trampolines in their backyards. So I would spend hours coming up with creative ways to jump on the trampoline. Somersaults, backflips, corkscrews, 720 spins, etc. were just a few style of jumps that I had perfected.
In 2015, I started playing basketball so I took notice to my jumping mechanics. This has really helped me produce more height in my jump shot.
Today, my wife decided to challenge me in the park. It was a spontaneous and fun way of moving outside. Here is the video of Kai’s Jumpman Challenge at Seaport Village in San Diego CA.
